Eduardo Arolas

Composer

Born 1892 in the Buenos Aires district of Barracas, died 1924 in Paris; Eduardo Arolas was an Argentine bandoneon player, bandleader and tango composer. Under the name „El Tigre del Bandoneon“ he became a central figure of early tango modernism. After first musical experiences on the guitar he turned to the bandoneon and from 1911 studied theory, solfège and harmony. His many tangos combine rhythmic energy with a harmonic language unusually advanced for its time, and lastingly influenced later generations.
