Born in Essen in 1966; Achim Christian Bornhöft is a composer and sound artist. He studied instrumental and electronic composition at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen with Nicolaus A. Huber and Dirk Reith and went to the CCRMA at Stanford University in 1994/95 on a DAAD scholarship. He received, among other distinctions, first prize at the Forum junger deutscher Komponisten, the Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Förderpreis for his string quartet “Nächte zwischen den Gezeiten” and, in 1993, the Folkwang-Preis for composition. From 1996 to 1999 he taught at the Universität Duisburg and the Folkwang Hochschule; in 2003 he founded the music publishing house SUMTONE. Since 2006 he has directed the Studio für Elektronische Musik at the Mozarteum Salzburg, where he took his habilitation in 2012 and became university professor in 2015; until 2023 he headed the Institut für Neue Musik. His works have been performed at the Donaueschinger Musiktage and the Festival Ultraschall, among others.
