Alain Boublil

Born in Tunis on 5 March 1941; Alain Boublil is a librettist and lyricist. In 1973 he and Claude-Michel Schönberg presented “La Révolution française” in Paris, the first French rock opera ever staged. “Les Misérables” followed in Paris in 1980, in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987, and won among other honours two Tony Awards, two Grammys, two Victoires de la Musique and a Molière; “Miss Saigon” opened in London in 1989, and “Martin Guerre” won the 1997 Olivier Award for Best Musical. With the composer Michel Legrand he created “Marguerite”. In May 2016 the more than forty-year collaboration of Boublil and Schönberg was celebrated at Carnegie Hall. On the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) David E. Moore sings “Bui Doi” from “Miss Saigon”, whose lyrics he wrote with Richard Maltby Jr.; the music is by Claude-Michel Schönberg.
