Arcangelo Corelli

Arcangelo Corelli was born in Fusignano on 17 February 1653 and died in Rome on 8 January 1713. The Italian violinist and composer received his decisive training in Bologna and later shaped Roman musical life as a soloist, leader and director of large instrumental ensembles. With his trio and violin sonatas and his concerti grossi he gave central genres of the Italian Baroque a form that remained influential far into the eighteenth century. His music joins melodic clarity, contrapuntal discipline and a way of writing for the violin that became the standard.
