Arcangelo Corelli was born in Fusignano on 17 February 1653 and died in Rome on 8 January 1713. The violinist and composer received his decisive training in Bologna, where he was a pupil of Giovanni Benvenuti from about 1666 to 1670 and was admitted to the Accademia Filarmonica in 1670. In Rome he played from 1675 in the orchestra of San Luigi dei Francesi, was first violinist at the Teatro Capranica in 1679, music master to Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili from 1687 to 1690 and, from about 1700, first violinist and director of the concerts of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. He published church and chamber sonatas for three instruments (op. 1–4, 1681–1694) and violin sonatas (op. 5, 1700); the Concerti grossi op. 6 appeared posthumously in 1714. He is represented as a composer on the Cybele album Vivi felice! (2003).
