Bernhard Haas

Born in 1964; Bernhard Haas is a German organist, music theorist and university teacher. He studied organ, piano, harpsichord, church music, composition and music theory at the music academies in Cologne, Freiburg and Vienna and received, among other distinctions, a prize at the Liszt Competition in Budapest in 1988. After teaching in Saarbrücken he became professor of organ at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in 1994; since 2012 he has been professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where he directs the Institut für Kirchenmusik. Concerts, master classes and jury work have taken him to most European countries as well as to Japan and South Korea. He has recorded works by Liszt, Reger, Strawinsky, Xenakis and Ferneyhough and published the books “Die neue Tonalität von Schubert bis Webern” (2004) and “Die zweistimmigen Inventionen von J. S. Bach” (2008). He plays organ on the Cybele album Feedback Studio Köln Vol. 11 – Johannes Fritsch: Damals-Triptychon (2011).
