Carlos Crespo

Carlos Crespo was born in Las Piedras, Uruguay, on 13 June 1947 and is a Uruguayan-German horn player and university teacher. After first lessons in Montevideo he studied from 1970 with Gerd Seifert at what was then the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1972 he played in the Philharmonia Hungarica, in 1973 he became principal horn of the Nürnberger Symphoniker; from 1974 to 1993 he belonged to the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and from 1985 to 1997 to the orchestra of the Bayreuther Festspiele. From 1992 to 2013 he taught as professor of horn at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim. In collaboration with him the firm Hans Hoyer developed Wagner tubas, which have been used at the Bayreuther Festspiele since 1996. He takes part as a performer on the Cybele album Günther Becker: Collected Works – Magnum Mysterium (2004).
