Christopher Tin

Composer

Born in California; Christopher Tin is a composer. He studied at Stanford and Oxford, graduating with a BA in Music and English and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities, and received an MMus with Distinction from the Royal College of Music in London. In 2011 he won two Grammys: for “Baba Yetu” in the category of instrumental arrangement accompanying vocals, and for his debut album, the multilingual song cycle “Calling All Dawns”, as best classical crossover album; in 2023 he was nominated for “Old World” and for “The Lost Birds” with Voces8. On the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) David E. Moore sings “Baba Yetu”, originally the theme of the video game “Civilization IV”, to a Swahili text based on the Lord’s Prayer; according to the Guinness Book of Records it was the first piece of music written for a video game to win a Grammy.
