Born in Moscow in 1979, Dmitri Jurowski belongs to the Russian-German Jurowski dynasty of conductors. He began his musical training as a cellist at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, continued it in Berlin and Rostock after the family moved and then studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin. Since 2005 he has worked in the operatic and concert repertoire and has conducted more than a hundred opera productions, at the Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Semperoper Dresden, the Opéra Bastille and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, among others. One focus of his work lies with Wagner, Strauss, Zemlinsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev; as a guest conductor he also works with international symphony orchestras and major soloists.
