Born in Moscow in 1979, Dmitri Jurowski belongs to the Russian-German Jurowski conducting dynasty. He began his musical training as a cellist at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, continued it in Berlin and Rostock after the family moved, and then studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin. He has worked in the opera and concert repertoire since 2005 and has conducted more than a hundred opera productions, among them at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Semperoper Dresden, the Opéra Bastille and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. One focus of his work lies with Wagner, Strauss, Zemlinsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev; as a guest conductor he also works with international symphony orchestras and with major soloists.
