Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain

Ensemble

Founded in France in 1992 by Daniel Kawka; the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain devotes itself to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, also in combination with live electronics. It plays in changing line-ups of about 15 to 35 musicians with strings, woodwind and brass, percussion and piano; its active repertoire contains works by more than 170 composers. Its base is Saint-Étienne. The ensemble appears at festivals for contemporary music, among them Automne en Normandie, the Festival Radio France Montpellier, Musica Strasbourg and the Warsaw Autumn, and complements its concerts with masterclasses, public rehearsals and artist talks.
