Born 1584 in Seville, or baptised there, died 1654 in Segovia; Francisco Correa de Arauxo was a Spanish organist, composer and music theorist. He worked first at the collegiate church of San Salvador in Seville and later at the cathedrals of Jaén and Segovia. With the “Facultad orgánica”, published in 1626, he left a central collection of tientos and at the same time a far-reaching theoretical treatise on Spanish organ art. His music joins Renaissance polyphony to the new expressive possibilities of the early Baroque.
