Founded in 1862; the Göttinger Symphonieorchester is a state orchestra in Lower Saxony and plays above all in the Stadthalle Göttingen, and also at other venues in the city as well as in Osterode and Einbeck. It is supported by the state of Lower Saxony, the city of Göttingen and the district of Göttingen. Its repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the modern era; the programme includes symphony and chamber concerts, Sunday matinees and education offerings such as the Pizzicato-Kinderclub. Nicholas Milton is principal conductor and artistic director; before him Christoph-Mathias Mueller directed the orchestra. Under his direction it took part in the album Jacqueline Fontyn and the Concerto, released by Cybele Records in 2014.
