* 2 November 1962 in London; British cellist and composer; son of the bassoonist and musicologist William Waterhouse and of the pianist Elisabeth Waterhouse. He attended Highgate School and studied composition at Cambridge with Hugh Wood and Robin Holloway, then cello at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen with Young-Chang Cho and at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with Maria Kliegel; in 2018 he took a doctorate in composition. He has lived in Munich since 1992. His work is devoted above all to chamber music – string quartets, piano quintets, works for cello and song cycles –, often written for particular players and unusual combinations; he leads the Waterhouse Streichtrio. On the album Portrait Graham Waterhouse (2001) he can be heard as composer and as cellist in chamber music of his own.
