Hanns Holger Rutz

Composer / Sound artist

Born in 1977; Hanns Holger Rutz is a sound artist, composer, performer, researcher and software developer in the field of electronic music. He studied at the Electronic Studio of the Technische Universität Berlin and at the Studio for Electroacoustic Music (SeaM) in Weimar and received his doctorate from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) in Plymouth. He worked on several research projects at SeaM Weimar and at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) in Graz; in 2019 he directed the artistic research project “Algorithms that Matter” (FWF AR 403). His work centres on the development of and research into software and algorithms, from which sound and intermedia installations, live improvisations and electroacoustic compositions emerge. In 2015 he was guest artist at the Institute for Music and Acoustics of the ZKM in Karlsruhe. On the Cybele album DEGEM Vol. 8 – 90 Seconds of Reality (2005) he is represented with “Halbschlaf” (2003).
