Born in Werne on 24 May 1930; Hans-Martin Linde is a German recorder player, flautist, conductor and composer. From 1947 to 1951 he studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, flute with Gustav Scheck and conducting with Konrad Lechner; he then became principal flautist of the Cappella Coloniensis of the WDR. From 1957 he taught historical flute instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and directed ensembles there; he also taught for many years at the Musik-Akademie Basel. From 1984 to 2000 he was principal conductor of the Cappella Coloniensis. As a soloist and chamber musician he appeared internationally and made numerous recordings, many of them with the Linde-Consort, which he founded. He composed chamber music above all for recorder and flute, songs, choral and orchestral works, and published a handbook of recorder playing as well as a short guide to ornamenting early music. On the audiobook Mirjam Wiesemann: Auf Flügeln in die Tiefe – Geschichten vom Aufwachsen (2010) his piece “Music for a Bird” for recorder is heard.
