Jan-Peter E. R. Sonntag

Born in Lübeck in 1965; Jan-Peter E. R. Sonntag is an artist and composer working in fine art, sound art, composition and improvised contemporary music, often at the intersection of art, science and technology. He has improvised since 1979 and exhibited since 1988. From 1986 to 1998 he studied art, art history, musicology, composition, German literature, sociology and philosophy, mainly in Oldenburg. He is a founding member of the new music society “unerhört” in Bremerhaven and of “oh Ton” in Oldenburg. In 1997 he won first prize at the improvisation competition in Leipzig; in 1999/2000 he was a fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, in 2008 he received the Deutscher Klangkunst-Preis and the CYNETart Award, and in 2012 he was a fellow of the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. On the Cybele album DEGEM Vol. 8 – 90 Seconds of Reality (2005) he is represented with “mono O” (2003).
