Jörg Waschinski was born in Berlin in 1966. He first studied church music and then turned to singing; as the first male soprano he completed a course of study with Renate Faltin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. In 1996 he won at the Internationaler Johann-Heinrich-Schmelzer-Wettbewerb in Melk and received a special prize at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang in Berlin. His repertoire combines Baroque music, opera and contemporary music theatre; recordings have been made under Martin Haselböck for cpo, among others. In 2009 Cybele Records released Gert Jonke’s Der Kopf des Georg Friedrich Händel with him as countertenor.
