John Williams

Composer

Born in Queens, New York, on 8 February 1932; John Williams is a composer and conductor. He studied composition with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco in Los Angeles and, after his service in the Air Force, piano with Rosina Lhévinne at the Juilliard School. He wrote the music for films such as “Jaws” (1975), “Star Wars” (1977), “E.T.” (1982), “Jurassic Park” (1993) and the first three “Harry Potter” films (2001 to 2004) and received five Academy Awards. From 1980 to 1993 he led the Boston Pops Orchestra as successor to Arthur Fiedler; he received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004 and the National Medal of Arts in 2009. On the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) Dragos Manza plays the theme from his music for Steven Spielberg’s film “Schindler’s List” (1993), for which he received the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994 and a Grammy in 1995.
