Kai Rapsch

Oboist / Cor anglais player

Born in Berlin in 1978, Kai Rapsch attended the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach music grammar school and was admitted at fifteen as a junior student at the Julius Stern Institute. From 1997 he studied oboe with Burkhard Glaetzner in Berlin, moved to Günther Passin in Munich in 2000 and completed his training there with distinction in 2004. While still a student he played in the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg; in 2004 the Münchner Philharmoniker engaged him as principal cor anglais and oboist, and at their orchestral academy he devotes himself to training the next generation. His early support and distinctions include a scholarship from the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and prizes at Jugend musiziert, the competition of the Konzertgesellschaft München and the Handel Competition in Halle. As a soloist and chamber musician he has appeared with the Bach Collegium München and the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig, among others; concerts and master classes have also taken him to Japan and South Korea. He brings his instrumental knowledge to the company Reeds for Oboes, founded in 2012, for which he makes reeds for oboe and cor anglais by hand.
