Karl-Heinz „Charly“ Schöppner was a Hamburg composer and percussionist whose work joined improvised music, electronics, film and performance. From 1982 he took part in record productions and wrote music for soundtracks, performances and modern dance. In the Giraffe trio he worked with the guitarist Sascha Demand and the electronic musician Jürgen Hall. Cross-genre projects such as the artist’s book „Zum Beispiel schönes langes Menschenhaar“, for which he contributed music and sound collages in 1988, also belonged to his work. Schöppner died in 2020; the Giraffe album „ATOMS“, released in 2024, recalls the trio’s work together.
