Born in 1928 in Mödrath near Cologne, died in 2007 in Kürten; Karlheinz Stockhausen was a composer, music theorist and pioneer of electronic music. He studied music, German philology, philosophy and musicology in Cologne and worked from 1953 in the Studio für elektronische Musik of the WDR. “Gesang der Jünglinge”, “Kontakte” and “Hymnen” belong to spatial, electronic and multi-channel music. Alongside his compositional work he taught in Darmstadt and Cologne and, with the seven-part cycle “Licht”, developed a large-scale music theatre project.
