Lothar Faber

Lothar Faber was born on 7 February 1922 in Cologne and died on 1 September 2005. He received his first oboe lessons from his father, studied at the Cologne Musikhochschule and at the Paris Conservatoire and became a soloist of the Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester in 1946. As a concert oboist he was a particular advocate of new music and appeared at numerous European festivals, several times at the Warsaw Autumn. Composers such as Bruno Maderna, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Tadeusz Baird, Edward Boguslawski, Wlodzimierz Kotonski, Krzysztof Meyer and Zbigniew Wiszniewski wrote works for him. From 1972 he led a masterclass for oboe during the summer courses of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
