The chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg is a central part of the opera ensemble and closely bound up with the history of Russian opera. As early as the nineteenth century it took part in early performances of operas by Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky; since 2021 it has been directed by Konstantin Rylov. Its repertoire ranges from Italian, German, French and Russian opera through great requiem and oratorio scores to Russian sacred music and a cappella works. The chorus appears internationally, takes part regularly in first performances and is also present through recordings on the Mariinsky label.
