Martin Supper

Composer / Musicologist

Born in Stuttgart in 1947; Martin Supper is a composer and musicologist. After training as a radio and television technician he studied theoretical computer science, linguistics and musicology at the Technische Universität Berlin, graduating with a diploma in computer science and taking a doctorate in musicology. As a DAAD scholar he worked with Gottfried Michael Koenig at the Instituut voor Sonologie of Utrecht University. From 1985 he taught electroacoustic music at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, today’s Universität der Künste. On the Cybele album DEGEM Vol. 3 – LeiseLaute (1997) he is represented with “DH2” (1985): the concept arose in 1985 at a summer course with Iannis Xenakis in Delphi, the title refers to the mathematician David Hilbert, and durations, dynamics and pitches are determined by recursive functions; the piece was realised in 1988 at Studio CUE in Berlin and presented at the Inventionen festival in 1989.
