Born 1918, died 1993; Paul Breuer was a German double bass player, composer and teacher. As professor at the Cologne Musikhochschule he shaped several generations of double bass players; his pupils included Gunnar Plümer, Martin Ingenhütt and Christian Geldsetzer. His compositional and pedagogical work is devoted above all to the double bass: the „Kleine Serenade“ for two flutes and double bass appeared in 1967, and his Sonatina in E major remained part of the teaching repertoire. Breuer joined the sonic independence of the instrument to a practical teaching tradition open to chamber music.
