Born in 1918, died in 1993; Paul Breuer was a German double bass player, composer and teacher. He taught as a professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne; his pupils included Gunnar Plümer, Martin Ingenhütt and Christian Geldsetzer. His compositional and pedagogical work is devoted above all to the double bass: the Kleine Serenade for two flutes and double bass appeared in 1967, and his Sonatina in E major for double bass and piano remained part of the training repertoire. His “Methode des Kontrabaßspiels” was published by Musikverlag Gerig. He also wrote male-voice choruses, chamber music and folk music cantatas. On the Cybele album Feedback Studio Köln Vol. 9 – Johannes Fritsch: Early Chamber Music (2011) he plays double bass.
