Paulo C. Chagas was born in Salvador, Brazil, and is a composer, sound artist and researcher in electroacoustic and audiovisual music. He studied at the Universidade de São Paulo and with Henri Pousseur at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique and the University of Liège, then electronic music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and musicology in Liège. His work comprises stage, orchestral, chamber, vocal and solo music as well as electroacoustic, interactive and multimedia pieces. In the 1990s he was sound director and composer in residence at the WDR studio for electronic music in Cologne; since 2004 he has taught composition at the University of California, Riverside, where he founded the Experimental Acoustic Research Studio.
