Richard Stilgoe

Born on 28 March 1943 in Camberley; Richard Stilgoe is a British lyricist, songwriter and entertainer. He was educated at Liverpool College, Monkton Combe School and Clare College, Cambridge. For Andrew Lloyd Webber he wrote lyrics for “Cats”, “Starlight Express” and “The Phantom of the Opera”; his broadcasting work has earned him awards including the Prix Italia. He founded the Orpheus Centre in Surrey, which prepares young disabled people for independent living through the performing arts. In 1998 he was High Sheriff of Surrey and was appointed OBE, and in 2012 he was knighted for charitable services through the Alchemy Foundation. On a gala recording by Doc Heilein and Friends, Sarah Bouwers and David E. Moore sing “All I Ask of You” from “The Phantom of the Opera”, whose lyrics he wrote with Charles Hart to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
