Under the name Doc Heilein & Friends, the physician and baritone Matthias Heilein, known as Doc Heilein, organises benefit galas at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. The galas of 2021 and 2023 featured singers from opera, musical theatre, gospel and pop, together with orchestra, band and the choirs of Sarah Bouwers and Boby C. Purakal; the artistic direction lay with Heilein and the conductor Armanda ten Brink. The third gala on 19 November 2021 mainly supported freelance musicians and singers; the fourth, on 20 January 2023, was devoted to the theme of accompaniment and dedicated to the palliative care clinic of the Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf. On the albums Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) and Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2023 – Ich will keine Schokolade (2023) the live recordings of these two galas can be heard, with titles ranging from gospel and pop to musical numbers and arias by Puccini.
