Dr. med. Matthias Heilein, known as Doc Heilein, is an internist with a practice in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel and a musician. Alongside his medical work he sings as a baritone, plays guitar and piano and stages the benefit galas “Doc Heilein and Friends” in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf; at the third gala in 2021 the support of freelance musicians and singers was at the centre, while the fifth gala in January 2024 went to the support of sick children, with around 50 professional musicians and a choir. The programmes combine classical music and opera with gospel, pop and musical. With his recordings and concerts Heilein supports social and medical projects, among them initiatives for cancer research; on the Undine label appeared the live recordings Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) and Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2023 – Ich will keine Schokolade (2023), on which he takes part as baritone and organiser.
