Born in Lünen on 6 July 1954; Rilo Chmielorz is a German sound artist, visual artist, composer and author. Starting from painting and performance, she has developed scratching since the 1980s as a visual and acoustic means of expression: signs, surfaces and noises are brought together in her installations, graphic scores and live performances. In 1993 she founded the Übergangsraum e. V. in Cologne for concert performances and happenings; in 2002 she received the production prize of the Deutscher Klangkunstpreis/WDR 3 Studio Akustische Kunst. Her artistic work moves between electroacoustic music, radio art, traces of memory and a poetic exploration of material.
