Born in Lünen on 6 July 1954; Rilo Chmielorz is a sound artist, visual artist, composer and author. She studied at the Kölner Werkschulen, among other things multimedia with Daniel Spoerri, and taught from 1988 to 1993 at the experimental theatre of the Universität zu Köln. Starting from painting and performance, she developed scratching from the 1980s onwards as a visual and acoustic means of design: signs, surfaces and noises are connected with one another in her installations, graphic scores and live performances. In 1993 she founded the Übergangsraum e. V. in Cologne for concert performances and happenings; in 2002 she received the Produktionspreis des Deutschen Klangkunstpreises/WDR 3 Studio Akustische Kunst. Since 2002 radio works have been produced, among others for WDR 3, Deutschlandradio Kultur, SWR and DLF, among them “Radio Ramonismo” (2008) and “Toreras” (2023). From 2009 she taught at Spanish universities, among others at the Universidad Miguel Hernandez. She is represented as a composer and performer on the Cybele album DEGEM Vol. 8 – 90 Seconds of Reality (2005).
