Born in Zaragoza around 1561, died in Zaragoza in 1627; Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia was an organist, composer and priest of the period of transition from the Renaissance to the early Baroque. In 1585 he became principal organist of Huesca Cathedral, and in 1603 he moved to La Seo Cathedral in Zaragoza. In 1618 his collection “Canticum Beatissimae Virginis Deiparae Mariae” appeared, with 36 Magnificat settings for four to eight voices, also for double choir, in all eight church modes. The greater part of his output consists of organ music, among it tientos and organ arrangements of Gregorian melodies. He is represented as a composer on the Cybele album Mallorca Edition Historic Organs (Vol. 4) of 2017.
