Born around 1561 in Zaragoza, died 1627 in Zaragoza; Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia was a Spanish organist, composer and priest of the transition from the Renaissance to the early Baroque. In 1585 he became principal organist of Huesca Cathedral; in 1603 he moved to La Seo Cathedral in Zaragoza. His output comprises sacred vocal polyphony and important organ music; the Magnificat settings printed in 1618 attest to his sure command of polychoral writing. In the tientos he combines contrapuntal tradition with an early-Baroque, tonally differentiated treatment of the organ.
