Sebastian Weigle

Conductor

Born in East Berlin in 1961; the conductor and horn player Sebastian Weigle studied horn, piano and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. In 1982 he became principal solo horn of the Staatskapelle Berlin; in 1987 he founded the Berliner Kammerchor and the Neue Berliner Kammerorchester. From 2004 to 2008 he was general music director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, from 2008 to 2023 general music director of the Oper Frankfurt; since 2019 he has been principal conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. In 2007 he made his debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele with “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”.
