Born in Wiesbaden; Silvia Weiss is a soprano. She studied voice with Donald Grobe at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and attended Aribert Reimann’s lied class; she took master classes with Ileana Cotrubas, Klesie Kelly and Reri Grist, among others. As a concert singer she has appeared as a guest at the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Biennale di Venezia, the Dresdner Musikfestspiele and the Berliner Festwochen. She has sung under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marek Janowski, Michael Gielen, Ivor Bolton and Jun Märkl; opera engagements have taken her to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, among others. On the album Juan Allende-Blin and the Ensemble (2016) she sings, with the E-MEX Ensemble, the “Fragment nach Hölderlin” for soprano, trumpet and euphonium and the cantata “L’émigrant” after a poem by Jules Supervielle.
