Silvio Foretic

Born on 21 December 1940 in Split and died on 13 May 2024 in Cologne, Silvio Foretic was a composer, conductor, pianist and singer. From 1959 he studied composition at the Musikakademie Zagreb with Milko Kelemen and in 1963 founded an ensemble for contemporary music with Janko Jezovsek. After moving to Cologne he continued his training with Bernd Alois Zimmermann (composition) and Herbert Eimert (electronic music) and worked as an assistant and collaborator of Mauricio Kagel. From 1974 to 2006 he taught at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and Duisburg and in 1982 founded the Ensemble Fin de siècle — fin de millénaire, which gave some fifty concerts of contemporary music in twelve years. His output comprises orchestral, chamber and electronic music, operas, cantatas, music theatre and multimedia forms. He received the Vladimir-Nazor-Preis, among others, and in 2021 the Porin for his life’s work. On Cybele Records he is represented on two albums in the series Feedback Studio Köln (1996, 2001).
