Stephen Harrison is a cellist and Senior Lecturer in cello and chamber music at Stanford University. He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and Boston University and received decisive impulses from George Neikrug, Andor Toth Jr., Margaret Rowell and Eugene Lehner. He has taught at Stanford since 1983, where he was a founding member of the Stanford String Quartet and later of the Ives String Quartet, whose successor project Ives Collective he directs artistically. As principal cello of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and as a chamber musician he joins contemporary repertoire, classical chamber music and teaching.
