Born in 1978; Torben Maiwald is a German composer. He names Michael Denhoff and György Kurtag as the important models and teachers of his youth; he studied at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Friedhelm Döhl. His early chamber music includes An Wesen for cello solo of 2006, a quiet, almost meditative monologue. When Michael Denhoff played this piece to him on the Campanula, he was so taken with the possibilities of the instrument that in 2010 he acquired a Campanula himself and wrote further works for it. In the Cybele catalogue he appears on ..für: Works for Campanula (+Harp) (2024).
