Alexandre Bloch

Conductor

Born in France in 1985; Alexandre Bloch studied cello and conducting at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP). In 2012 he won first prize at the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, from which the collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra arose. With the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra he made his debut at short notice as a stand-in for Mariss Jansons. He was a Conducting Fellow at Tanglewood; his teachers included Mariss Jansons, Pierre Boulez and Esa-Pekka Salonen. From 2015 to 2021 he was principal guest conductor of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, and from 2016 to 2024 principal conductor of the Orchestre National de Lille. There he conducted complete Mahler cycles and most of Strawinsky’s ballets; in 2020 the orchestra was nominated for the Gramophone Award Orchestra of the Year and recorded for Alpha Classics and Pentatone.
