American Brass Quintet

The American Brass Quintet was founded in 1960; it plays in the scoring of two trumpets, horn, tenor and bass trombone. The ensemble has premiered more than 150 works for brass quintet, among them compositions by Elliott Carter, William Schuman, Joan Tower and John Zorn, and has presented more than sixty recordings. Since 1970 it has been ensemble in residence of the Aspen Music Festival and School, and since 1987 at the Juilliard School in New York. Chamber Music America honoured the quintet with the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award. On the Cybele album Portrait Günther Becker (1998) the ensemble is represented.
