Born in Berlin in 1959; André Ruschkowski is a composer and musicologist. After vocational training in recording studio technology he studied musicology at the Humboldt University Berlin from 1984 to 1989 and in 1993 took his doctorate with a dissertation on divergent aesthetic concepts of electronic music. He attended composition courses and worked in studios for electronic music, among others at the Technische Universität Berlin, the Akademie der Künste Berlin, Budapest Radio, the Ateliers UPIC in Paris, the Institute for Electroacoustics and Experimental Music in Vienna and the University of Toronto. From 1992 he taught electronic music at the Technische Universität Berlin, in 1993/94 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, in 1995 he was visiting professor for twentieth-century music at the University of Cologne and from 1995 visiting professor for electronic music at the Mozarteum. In 1998 Reclam published his book “Elektronische Klänge und musikalische Entdeckungen”. He received distinctions in 1985 and 1989 at the International Competition of Electroacoustic Music in Bourges and in 1989 at the Luigi Russolo competition in Varese, in 1990 the prize of the city of Varese and in 1997 a prize at the radio art competition in Paris. On the Cybele album DEGEM Vol. 4 – Ausbruch Aufbruch (1998) he is represented with “Nasoma” (1996).
