Born in Montona in Istria between 1470 and 1480, died there around 1540; Andrea Antico da Montona was a composer, musician and publisher of music collections. He worked in Venice and Rome, where he issued printed music, and later returned to Montona. He wrote above all frottole, the secular song form of the Italian Renaissance. In the Cybele catalogue his Ricercare no. 19 from the first book is heard on Vivi felice! (2003), played by Jeremias Schwarzer and Egon Mihajlovic; the short piece was probably intended originally as a lute prelude to a madrigal or as an interlude.
