Armando Gentilucci was born in Lecce on 8 October 1939 and died in Milan on 12 November 1989. His training at the Milan Conservatory with Bruno Bettinelli and Franco Donatoni comprised composition, choral music, piano and conducting; in parallel he taught at the conservatories of Bolzano and Milan. From 1969 he directed the Istituto Musicale “Achille Peri” in Reggio Emilia and opened the institution programmatically to contemporary music and to public education. As a co-initiator of Musica/Realtà and the author of fundamental introductions to new and electronic music he joined composing, teaching and writing; his music explores finely differentiated sound fields and large instrumental spaces.
