Armando Gentilucci

Armando Gentilucci was born on 8 October 1939 in Lecce and died on 12 November 1989 in Milan. At the Milan Conservatory he studied with Bruno Bettinelli and Franco Donatoni and graduated in composition, choral music, piano and conducting; in 1965 he attended the advanced course of Virgilio Mortari at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. From 1964 he taught at the Bolzano Conservatory and from 1965 at the Milan Conservatory. From 1969 to 1989 he directed the Istituto Musicale Achille Peri in Reggio Emilia, which under his direction collaborated with Luigi Nono and Claudio Abbado, among others. He was a co-initiator of the initiative “Musica/Realtà”, founded in 1972, and published “Guida all’ascolto della musica contemporanea” (1969), “Introduzione alla musica elettronica” (1972) and “Oltre l’avanguardia” (1979). His works include “Figurazioni” (1966), “Strofe di Ungaretti” (1967), “Studi per un Dies irae” (1972), “Il tempo sullo sfondo” (1979), “Le clessidre di Dürer” and the opera “Moby Dick” (1986–1988). In 2000 Cybele Records released the album piano possibile with his music.
