David Pittman-Jennings

David Pittman-Jennings is a baritone, born on 13 December 1946 in Duncan (Oklahoma). He first studied oboe at the University of Oklahoma (Bachelor 1969) and then singing at California State University Northridge (Master 1974) as well as with Elisabeth Parham in Los Angeles. In 1977 he made his debut as the Count in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” at the Oper Graz, to which he belonged until 1979; engagements in Bremen (1979–1982) and at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam (1984–1986) followed, as well as guest appearances at the Paris Opera, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and at the Salzburger Festspiele, among others. His roles include Agamemnon, Mandryka, Scarpia, Jochanaan, Moses in Schönberg’s “Moses und Aron” and the title role in Berg’s “Wozzeck”. For the Deutsche Grammophon recording of “Moses und Aron” he received a Grammy in 1996; from 2007 to 2017 he taught singing at the Crane School of Music of SUNY Potsdam. In 2008 Cybele Records released Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Requiem für einen jungen Dichter with him as baritone soloist.
