Only a few facts about the life of the Italian High Baroque composer Domenico Maria Dreyer are certain; the sources place him roughly between 1680 and 1740. He was the son of the German tenor Johann Conrad Dreyer and of an Italian mother and was professionally closely connected with his younger brother Giovanni Filippo Dreyer, a castrato, impresario and opera composer; the brothers worked for a long time at the courts of Moscow and Saint Petersburg and later in Italy. At the beginning of the 1730s Dreyer appeared in Venice. Six sonatas for oboe and basso continuo and two sonatas for recorder and basso continuo have survived. These works are assigned to the Venetian High Baroque and dated to around 1725. He is represented as a composer on the Cybele album Dreyer. Détry. Vivaldi: Sonatas for Solo Instruments and b.c.
