Born in Korbach in 1943, Elke Heidenreich studied German philology, journalism, religious studies and theatre history in Munich, Hamburg and Berlin. She worked for radio and television as an author and presenter and became known as a cabaret artist with the character Else Stratmann and through her columns. She made her literary debut in 1992 with the story collection „Kolonien der Liebe“; since then her work has joined prose, radio drama, column and opera libretto. As an advocate of literature she shaped the ZDF programme „Lesen!“ and the literary club of Swiss television, among others.
