Cistercian of Marienstatt Abbey in the Westerwald. The community was founded in 1212 and moved in 1222 to its present site in the Nister valley near Hachenburg; it belongs to the Mehrerau Congregation, and its early Gothic abbey church has borne the title of a basilica minor since 1927. The communal choral office is at the centre of the monastic day. In the Cybele catalogue, Fr. Gregor Brandt plays the organ on the album Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt – Live Recordings from the Liturgical Celebration (1997), which contains live recordings of the monks’ choral office made in August 1997.
