Gebrüder Grimm

The Brothers Grimm are Jacob Grimm (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), two German philologists, folklorists and authors from Hanau. With their „Kinder- und Hausmärchen“, published from 1812, they made orally transmitted narrative material known worldwide in a literarily shaped collection. Besides the collection of fairy tales they researched the history of the German language and literature, wrote a „Deutsche Grammatik“ and began the „Deutsches Wörterbuch“. Their joint work founded decisive fields of German studies and continues to resonate in literature, linguistics, music theatre and cultural memory.
