Georg Büchner

Author

Born 1813 in Goddelau near Darmstadt, died 1837 in Zurich; Georg Büchner was a German writer, physician and natural scientist. He studied in Strasbourg and Giessen, was politically active and in 1834 published the socially critical pamphlet “Der Hessische Landbote”. After fleeing Hesse he took his doctorate in Zurich and worked there as a private lecturer in comparative anatomy. With “Dantons Tod”, “Lenz”, “Leonce und Lena” and the fragment “Woyzeck” he created a slender but far-reaching body of German literature.
