Formed in 2002 from members of the Nederlandse Balletorkest and the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest; the Holland Symfonia was a Dutch symphony and ballet orchestra with around 140 musicians and the Philharmonie Haarlem as its base. It was the permanent partner of Het Nationale Ballet and accompanied the Nationale Reisopera, the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Introdans company and several choirs; as an opera orchestra it performed in the provinces of North and South Holland. Its repertoire ranged from classical and symphonic music to contemporary music and crossover, and there were also education projects. In 2014 the orchestra was absorbed into Het Balletorkest. For Cybele Records it took part in the 2008 recording of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s “Requiem für einen jungen Dichter” under Bernhard Kontarsky.
