Irene Kurka

Irene Kurka is a soprano, author and podcaster with a focus on contemporary vocal music. She studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, adding a master’s degree in medieval music at the Folkwang Universität der Künste. Numerous works have been written for her, and she has sung more than 320 first performances. Alongside her concert work she develops solo programmes for voice and has passed on her experience since 2018 in the podcast *neue musik leben*; in 2013 she received the Wolfram von Eschenbach award and in 2014 the music award of the City of Düsseldorf.
