Irmela Roelcke is a German pianist and interpreter of contemporary music. She was trained as a pianist by James Avery in Freiburg, where she later also taught piano. As a soloist and chamber musician she has appeared at international festivals for new music and has initiated multiple-piano projects. Her repertoire joins classical modernism to current music and is marked by precise, sound-conscious ensemble work.
